In my particular case, it would have been a visit into the former shipbuilding town of Jarrow, in County Durham.
I can still remember sitting up at the front of the bus upstairs with my best friend, Rob. Around this time, we would meet up with all of our friends, by the statue of Sir Charles Mark Palmer situated, outside the town hall.
Sir Charles was credited as the shipyard founder and industrialist, as well as the towns first mayor and MP. A time capsule was placed inside this statue, and included a history of the statue itself, and a press report of the day.
All of which of course, as a youngster, was of no interest to me, whatsoever!
Strangely enough though, It matters to me now?
But then again, with the passage of time, our priorities definitely do change.
“Old Guys Rule?”…….Somehow, I really don’t think these youngsters you see here, would all totally agree! Would you?
