We berthed in Philipsburgh which is the capital of the Dutch side of the island.
St Maarten is a tropical island in the north-east Caribbean, approximately 186 miles east of Puerto Rico.
The island is divided roughly in half beween France and the Netherlands Antilles. It is the smallest inhabited sea island divided betwen two nations, a division dating back to 1648.
The southern Dutch half comprises the island area of St. Maarten and is part of the Netherlands Antilles.
The northern French half comprises the Collectivite de Saint-Martin (Collectively of St. Martin) and is an overseas collectively of France.
This was a relatively short stay visit for us and mostly we spent time looking in the local shops at gifts for our return home. They say that small is beautiful and St. Maarten island was certainly no exception.
Gorgeous place, and a most memorable and distinctly pleasurable experience. Loved it!
