Well the big day has arrived. It’s the final today at 1600 hours in Fortress Twickenham.
I thought I would try to combine the two events, hence my contribution for today.
The words you see above are from the original haka composed by Te Rauparaha circa 1820
As you are aware by now (anyone who is kind enough to follow me that is) my team Scotland were desperately unfortunate to lose out to Australia recently, and so my loyalties today are very much with New Zealand and to Ritchie and Dan for whom losing today is simply not an option either player could even contemplate.
As you can probably sense I am just a little excited about the game, and hope that Australia get to feel some of my pain after the final whistle blows.
But fair play; these are two incredibly tough and clinically ruthless sides both of whom are determined to win at any cost. So tie down your furniture!
Can you imagine the atmosphere there? The passion of the anthems followed by the ‘haka’ If these fail to stir the emotions then you simply can’t be human! Jeez I honestly can’t bloody wait!
It’s going to be a genuine privilege to see international rugby played out to it’s absolute highest level imaginable.
But my mind’s made up, i’ve already chosen the winning team; and for me that’s got to be the simply outstanding ‘All Blacks’
So c’mon you lot…get practicing your haka for later on, and sincere good luck to both teams in what promises to be a historical and momentous game of rugby. Here then are the words the All Blacks will be using today; so I want to hear those thighs and chests being slapped loudly okay? And don’t forget to stick those tongues out okay?
“RIGHT THEN, ASSUME THE POSITION GUYS HERE WE GO”
KA MATE! KA MATE!
We’re going to die! We’re going to die!
We are at war
Chorus
KA ORA! KA ORA!
We’re going to live! We’re going to live!
But now there is peace
Leader
KA MATE! KA MATE!
We’re going to die! We’re going to die!
We thought we were all going to die!
Chorus
KA ORA, KA ORA!
We’re going to live! We’re going to live!
but now we are safe
All together
TENE! TE TANGATA PURU-HURU!
This is the man, so hairy
because our leader, so strong and masculine,
NA’A NEI TIKI MAI WHAKA-WHITI TE…
who fetched, and made shine that has unified us and brought back the sunny days of
…RA! UPANE! KA UPANE!
sun! Together! All together ,,,!
peace. We are all working in harmony, side by side,
A UPANE! KA UPANE!
Together! All together …!
moving in unison like the hairs on our chief’s legs
WHITI TE RA!
To sun shines!
to prolong these sunny days of peace.
HI!
YEAH!
So! Who is going to be the first ever three times World Cup winning team?
After what promises to be a brutal 80 minute clash of the Titans, we will all no doubt have our answer later today…won’t we?
“Jeez I honestly can’t bloody wait!” Love your enthusiasm! 😀
I’m finding it hard to contain myself Lola my friend. Perhaps i should have a lie down?
